It all began in 1989 with the success of the band Kaoma. The ardent lambada became rapidly contagious to the people of Barcelona. It started first among Brazilians living here when they opened a nightclub of Brazilian atmosphere, called "Made in Brazil". It represented an innovation in our city, because it was a place totally different from what we were accustomed to seeing so far, decoration recreating their country, the waiters and DJs were also Brazilians, they served exotic drinks, especially the famous "caipirinha", without forgetting other tropical juices tropical etc.. But the most striking about everything was the music: axê, forró, samba, and of course lambada.

After the success of this "experiment" they inaugurated another "Made in Brazil" in the town of Salou (province of Tarragona), which lies approximately one hour from Barcelona. The small distance represented allowed us to move, both from Barcelona to Salou and from there to Barcelona. At present both nightclubs are closed.

At the same time other clubs emerged as a complement to the local Brazilian festival in Barcelona, for example: La Mar Salada, the first of the music bars in the Olympic Port of Barcelona who ventured with this experience, and later others like Barlovento, Zich, Ipanema, Cyan Bar and nowadays the Celebrity club, all of them inside the Olympic Village premises.

More and more people were eager to enjoy the varied rhythms Brazilians and avid to learn the techniques of their dances.

For these reasons the Lambada lessons offered in the club "Made in Brasil" were very popular, instructed by Wellington and Rita. After their success other prominent professors followed, such as Marc, Anabel, King, Toni, Jefferson. All of them also took care of the music of the Club, along with Lidia. A special mention should be made about the first "carioca" girl who taught us in Barcelona, in addition to the mentioned lambada classes, Samba classes: Rita Stylus, who is still active in teaching Samba in the Samba Brazil and Ampuriabrava (Girona) clubs.

In the year 2001 a great teacher from Argentina arrived: Fabio. It turned out to be a real innovation, since he taught a new form of dance, a variation or upgrade of the "lambada" called "zouk". He ran classes in the major Dancing Clubs and Discotheques like: Bye Bye Brazil, Opiniâo, Antilla, Axê Brazil, Boca Boca Gym Entenza, Sambaé, etc., a part from doing plenty of dancing performances.

As the party atmosphere, which concentrated in the Olympic Bar and Cyan area, grew exponentially, our fantastic DJ Papagaio, proposed to begin lambada / zouk classes there. The project was really successful and Laia took over the command, along with another argentine teacher called Hernan, a fellow of Gilson in Buenos Aires. The success was astonishing and they had to organize three levels of learning and consequently increase the number of teachers to fill the vacancies. That was the moment when Laura and then Edgar joined the group. After the return of Hernan to Argentina, his role was taken over alternately by Papagaio and Nuria. Nuria (Nuriaxé) is also the soul which animates the Porto do Brazil in Masnou.

These classes in the Olympic zone had to be expanded because of the large presence of students, and Nuria and Laura were responsible for training new entrants at various gyms in Barcelona and currently in the Porto do Brasil in Port Masnou.

Many of us, lovers of Brazil rhytms, discovered that organized dancing congresses where hold in different parts of the world, like the Pontin's in England, which was the first that we visited. We were fascinated to see that we were not alone in Europe and we were touched about the good performances of all the teachers who participated therein, like Berg and Solange, and Patricia Braz, Lula and Karina, Heber, Claudia and the Mallorcan Daniel and Leticia .

After that first congress for us, the enthusiasm was such that we tried to attend all possible meetings: the Barcelona 2004, with Daniel and Leticia in front, the one organized by Berg in Porto Seguro and the latest in Amsterdam, organized by Claudia . To these activities we could add the various workshops that took place in our city and the trips we did around different places using the dance as an excuse. A special mention should be made about the fantastic workshop that Rodrigo Delano gave us a few years ago.

The movement continues, and each time we are more in touch with the amateur dancers of Salou and their magnificent teachers Josy and his cousin Mauritius, without neglecting Wellington and many others. There the reggaeton thrives increasingly and allows us to apply our zouk and lambada to this new rhythm in a more fashionable way.

Our love for the lambada, the zouk, the samba and all Brazilian sounds has grown as we have known all these different rhythms. That has been the main driver which has prompted us to organize our first congress of Brazilian dances in Barcelona, Dansabrasil 2006. Now with the experience gathered in two congresses we want to organize a fantastic third congress to meet again our dancing friends from around the world and enjoy the wonderful music that embraces us all, captures us and fills us with emotion.
